The idea behind the exhibition New, Used, Borrowed , opening Saturday night at the Chapman University Guggenheim Gallery , is to show the role of the artist as more than “art maker” but also art collector and art admirer. Each artist has created a New work of art for this exhibition; each has included a work of art (or a grouping of artworks) they have purchased and Used in the context of their private life; and finally, each has Borrowed a work of art from an artist whose work they admire

The President is sponsoring the SAVE Award because he believes that the men and women on the front lines of government service know better than anyone how to make government cost less and work better. If you’re a federal employee, submit your ideas by July 22. If you win, you’ll be invited to the White House to present your idea to the President and have that idea included in the FY 2012 Budget.

Many multiple things. If you can stand the heat, some notables include the entire — extended — strip of Tecumseth Street, from Diaz Contemporary way down south at Niagara all the way up to Susan Hobbs, almost at Queen. They've been sporadically timing their openings together for a while now, and I think it's genius, bringing a critical mass of people to the neighbourhood all at once

Illustration: Otto Prutscher Carpet design c1909 This piece of design work can be seen as a prime example of what many have come to associate, and in some respects even expect, from the design movement of the Wiener Werkstatte. It was produced as a carpet design around 1909 by one of the prominent members of the Wiener Werkstatte, Otto Prutscher. Prutscher had the great fortune to be taught at the Viennese Art School by amongst others, Professor Josef Hoffmann

Conserve started as an NGO in 1998 as an advocate group for waste management. They first began helping Delhi’s urban poor get access to health care and education unaware that soon they would be making and exporting bags made entirely from recycled materials.

Rubies are wonderful! Most of the rubies that I get are an opaque colour and usually a dark red or a pinkish red. I wish that I could find more rubies in different sizes (especially larger sizes) and shapes, but I do jump on any opportunity to get some that look out of the ordinary. Rubies belong to the corundum family of gemstones and are generally the most valuable of that type.

Illustration: Rayna Gillman Kaddish In this particular series of artwork pieces textile and mixed media artist Rayna Gillman appears to deal in fragments of generational memories. These are often physically overlaid in her work and can sometimes resemble a collaged and annotated journey.

When I wrote about Nathan Myhrvold’s book project in November he estimated the book to reach 1500 pages. But what originally started out as a 300-page book on sous vide has now, with the help of a 20-person team, grown to a total of 2200 pages spanning five volumes ! Need I say more? Finally the long wait is over: The Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking is now available for pre-order at Amazon, and the expected release date is December 1st.

Illustration: Illuminated manuscripts from Owen Jones The Grammar of Ornament 1856 Owen Jones did not produce a separate chapter in his 1856 The Grammar of Ornament for illuminated manuscripts. It was in fact a sub-section of his Medieval Ornament chapter, which also included examples of stained glass, ceramic tiles and other standard decorative work. Of the three pages of illustrations within the chapter that dealt with illuminated manuscripts, all of which are shown here, some were taken by Jones from examples in the British Museum and some from Illuminated Books of the Middle Ages which was originally published in 1849 by Henry Noel Humphreys.

With the world becoming smaller due to globalization, there are a lot of options available to people for everything and the same rings true for home decoration. Today, one can decorate their homes in any style that they want – be it the Arabian Style, or the Indian Style, or even the medieval style.

Indian Furniture For Your Restaurant – Is it Available?
Whenever someone says Indian furniture, the first pictures that come in people’s minds are the ancient diwans and the palatial king size beds. However, it is a misconception that Indian furniture is only the ancient type of furniture.
