It was not a good day…aside from having to leave a tropical paradise, it went like this: 1) 5am wake up call (not so unusual when we’re camping…but painful after several days of leisure!) 2) Horrible, horrible ferry ride back to Dar Es Salaam. The boat was fine on the way out to Zanzibar, but the waves were absolutely huge going back.

Out the front of the temple dozens of pilgrims prostrate themselves full length on the ground in prayer to Buddha, repeating their short ritual over and over. We made our way past them and into the tourist entrance of the temple, and proceeded to have a very rushed tour, led by Pemba (the Tibetan guide)
