Getting All Caught Up

I think I’ve said before that I’m a little “OCD” about a number of things…and shipping is high on my list of things that I ‘obsess’ about. I had to go to weekly shipping….because I found, especially if I’ve had a really good week… that I could get caught up in shipping and let other things..

"Fokkelina in Arnhem." Arnhem, Holland.

This weekend there is an historical ships weekend, with all kind of historical ships and boats and other harbour like stuff To bad that I am not able to be there but luckily Fokkelina is, and was already in Arnhem, and gave a nice little view of whats in store, … “Fokkelina in Arnhem.” Arnhem, Holland

"Sleeping beauties." Velp, Holland.

It rained the whole day, there goes the spring feeling, I thought. But I didn’t want to give in so went to my favorite garden-centre ” Overhagen ” only to discover that the little flowers where still a sleep. I painted these little beauties while they are still awaiting spring.

"Oerkracht." Sonsbeek, Arnhem.

Maybe the last beautiful spring day this week, clouds already appearing, and a sense of thunder is almost there. Anyway a great days painting in Arnhem. “Oerkracht.” Sonsbeek, Arnhem

Painting with Johan Reinboud II. Oosterbeek, Holland.

It becomes quite a tradition, Thursday painting day with Johan. I like it, he’s a good painter, and we don’t chat that much during our sessions. He looks in somewhat other way to the landscape as I do, more into the future so to speak.

Picasso and the Avant-Garde and who?

A stealth contemporary art work is nestling inside the very core of the Picasso and the Avant-Garde exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art . Virgil Marti's pouf, Sigmund, 2010, mixed media, attracts a crowd in the period room created for the Picasso show at the PMA Virgil Marti’s pouf , aka Sigmund, sits in a place of honor–dead center in the beautiful terra cotta red salon room that replicates the 1912 Salon d’Automne. Sigmund is meant for reclining.

Melanie Boreham in Sydney

When I entered the solo show of Melanie Boreham at Hardware Gallery , I entered a forest. Suspended from different heights from the ceiling were forty bonsai-sized trees. These floating trees captivated me immediately because of their defiance of gravity, floating in a dream-like constellation.

Art for the theatre of your mind – Allison Reimus at Grizzly Grizzly

I stopped by Grizzly Grizzly last weekend to see the paintings by Allison Reimus and talk with GG members Bruce Wilhelm and Dennis Matthews. The scrappy little coop gallery keeps chugging along with one serious show after another. Reimus’s show presents heavily patterned canvases in surprising and rather old-fashioned colors (purples and reds with greens; some atomic yellows and metallic coppers and grays.

Anthony Lister at Lyons Wier Gallery, NYC

Australian born artist Anthony Lister is showing at the Lyons Wier Gallery in New York City from March 19 through to April 19. A lot of my favorite artists are painters that never really give up using the pencil (line). Painterly paintings are good but so are paintings that look like drawings

The Greatest Living American Abstract Painter Tourney-ish

It’s been way too long since I did something frivolous here on MAN, so… this week I’m kicking off a mostly silly, substantially whimsical, still-about-art pseudo-endeavor.

The first one of yesterday. Arnhem, Holland.

As you probably noticed the painting yesterday was made quite late at the day, so I guessed you thought I did make an other one, … I DID !! Just a few yards away where the first one was made only facing the other direction, lays all kinds of living barges and ships. One of them is “The Compaen.” you can rent it to stay on it and visit Arnhem, ..

Painting with Johan Reinboud. Arnhem, Holland.

Painted today with Johan Reinboud, a great painter here in Arnhem and a colorist pour San. It’s great to see him work very loose and relaxed yet using a bunch of colors that would make me shiver

Tuesday links

This will likely be one of the most interesting art museum blogs ever: Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum has set up a blog that will chronicle the restoration of its masterpiece, The Bedroom. The blog is off and running with two posts: One that details the paintings removal from view and the thoughtful response of some Spanish visitors to its absence; and one that begins to detail the damage that conservators hope to address
