Yesterday was the last day of painting at the school for a week and last day of getting more red stain and yellow stain of paint on my clothes, thank goodness, i actually washed my clothes yesterday in a wash basin, all my clothes were stiff and hard as rock after but they sorta feel clean, but where we’re based in Bujagli its red dust evrywhere and my washing line didnt stay up too wel so in fact my clothes got worst before i cleaned them, good times!! New Last Meal Painting Finally on the Easel

Unlike most of my pieces, which are typically composed and begun in a matter of hours or days, the paintings in the series of Last Meals take much longer (no pun i ntended) to execute….While I photograph the leftovers immediately following the meal, it is often several weeks before I gain sufficient distance to formalize the composition and actually b egin painting…. Oil Painting: Solvents and Resins

Oil Painting: Solvents and Resins Solvents are added to oil paints to temporarily change the way they work and are designed to evaporate evenly and totally as the oil paint dries. (Technically, the more correct term is diluents, as not all are solvents, but it’s not the term commonly used.) Solvents are also used to dissolve resins, making mediums , cleaning up, and for cleaning brushes. It is essential to use solvents in a well-ventilated room and remember that they are flammable (catch fire easily)

New Life from the Ashes

Less than three weeks ago, a forest fire whipped through this timber stand just outside a municipal park near Happy Valley-Goose Bay.  Firefighting airplanes, helicopters, firetrucks and ground crews kept the fire from jumping the highway and destroying the RV park  on the other side of the road.   There were people camped in tents in the area, too, so it was very fortunate that no one was hurt, and the remnants of the fire were put out after several days.  And now, not even twenty days afterwards , the roots of these trees are sending out new shoots and greenery in  the midst of what looks like destruction.  There’s a moral here: Even if you suffer total disaster, if you have firmly grounded roots, you can regrow and grow stronger from the ashes of what surrounds you

Painting the Cape: Since 20th century artists drawn to the unique light (The Falmouth Bulletin)

Cape Cod has long attracted artists who paint landscapes on site, known by the French phrase, en plein air. It started with The Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown (sometimes mis-called “the school of light” by locals) established by Charles Hawthorne in 1899 and taken over by Henry Hensche in 1935. It was the first art school in the United States to concentrate on painting outside Go here to see the original:  Painting the Cape: Since 20th century artists drawn to the unique light (The Falmouth Bulletin)

Art Galleries in the New Economy

While I should be focused on writing the paper I am presenting at the Arts in Society conference in Venice in exactly two weeks, I am continually side-tracked by what is becoming an all consuming concern of how does a relatively new small gallery survive in the new economy? I have watched three other galleries close in my east side neighbourhood over the past few months: Ninette Gyorody’s Studio Nine Gallery on Queen St East, Svava Juliusson’s LIST Gallery on the Danforth, and a gallery on Pape at Danforth

Cabin at Switzerland Park, Colorado – Nederland, Colorado, United States

Jump to the full entry & travel map Nederland, Colorado, United States We escaped the heat to Darren’s family’s cabin in Switzerland Park in the mountains west of Boulder.  Darren broke in his new mountain bike with four straight days of biking near the cabin at West Magnolia, Sourdough, and a portion of the Switzerland Trail.  When Kristi didn’t tag along to bike, she had some time to practice painting on the cabin porch.

Ultimate Simlish Art

I also plan to turn some of these images into separate posters and paintings….I’m not sure if the one on the top left is a simlish version of a real painting (Art is not my forte), but I recognized the other four!…I’ve finished extracting all the Sims 3 paintings/posters/random textures for a new set of Simlish Bulletin Boards (someone requested that at ModTheSims)….My favorite hands down is the “Girl with a Pearl Earring” painting…. Jump to the full entry & travel map Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Hi all, Even though it’s been 2 weeks since my last blog I think this one will be short as all I’ve been doing for the last 2 weeks is partying hard with an amazing crew of people…. so a lot of what went on was just in-jokes that nobody outside the group would get (and what happens on tour stays of tour of course!)…. and a lot of it is an alcoholic haze….

Progress

I can’t count how many times we’ve run across something in the house and wondered what someone was thinking when they installed/painted/did said thing….The floors are done!!!!! Unfortunately these photos don’t capture how incredible the floors make the house feel – they combined with the painting make it feel like a new house….The only medicine cabinet we liked came in natural wood, so I painted that while Curtis installed the light fixture and a new faucet….We spent a lot of the weekend in the bathroom which needed a significant amount of work. First we painted – chose a soft gray….

Caught Up With Cebu’s Glorious Past – Colon, Cebu City, Philippines

Jump to the full entry & travel map Colon, Cebu City, Philippines Cebu, the first city I’ve ever seen in the Visayas, always surprises me with something new — an avant-garde bridge, a luxurious mall, a swanky hotel or what have you — whenever certain occasions lead me to visit this boom town; all of them impressive testaments to the progress sweeping the metropolis that reinforce its reputation as the undisputed Queen City of the South. That’s why I still look forward to the next visit even if I’ve been there for countless times during the last ten years

more decorated pages…

I created this by first gessoing the cover, then painting it black with a little azo gold glaze mixed in….I used that blue painter’s tape (stuck it to my clothes first to de-stick it a bit) and chalk ink. This is one of my fave pages….So, I began by blobbing on tiny dots of paint on one page and smacking the 2-page spread together, then pulling apart….Some people did exactly what was instructed in the book and had some messy accidents, because we were supposed to dilute the paint a lot with water….
