In March, at the Hadassah fundraiser with Slomo Mo-Yosef (left); and with husband/President Sarkozy on Bastille Day (right). Photos: AFP/Getty Images Carla Bruni spent her younger years as a fashion plate and has been wowing official crowds with her great sense of style ever since becoming French First Lady. But perhaps even supermodels can use a style pointer now and then! The First Lady of France is taking a play straight out of Michelle Obama’s stylebook by recycling her looks.

Continuing from yesterday’s post about Bruce Nauman’s 1981 sculptures South America Triangle and Diamond Africa with Chair Tuned, D.E.A.D. : … Both sculptures reminded me of American behaviors that I’d read about in the 2007 International Committee of the Red Cross report that concluded that the Bush administration tortured detainees

Cape Cod has long attracted artists who paint landscapes on site, known by the French phrase, en plein air. It started with The Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown (sometimes mis-called “the school of light” by locals) established by Charles Hawthorne in 1899 and taken over by Henry Hensche in 1935. It was the first art school in the United States to concentrate on painting outside Go here to see the original: Painting the Cape: Since 20th century artists drawn to the unique light (The Falmouth Bulletin)

The “slow burn” is my term for a centrally managed economy in which a small group of insiders covertly subsidize themselves at the expense of the outsiders through (i) monetary policy, (ii) manipulation of government resources, regulation and enforcement and (iii) manipulation of financial markets and data. If you’d ask me which people are really ‘must-follow’ for their continuous insight into the evolving post-meltdown evolution, then the following would quickly come to mind: John Robb of Global Guerillas, Jeff Vail of the Theory of Power, Kevin Carson’s insight into decentralization of production. There are more of course, and one of them is definitely Catherine Austin Fitts .

Mutuality 2.0: open sourcing the financial crisis | open Democracy News Analysis Mutuality 2.0; a new form of financial system that offers mutuality in the old sense of the term, together with feasible opportunities for participation and supervision, but avoiding further layers of regulation, or further levels of hierarchical control. The idea of XBRL is that it is not a set of regulations, it is a standard reporting format, so to an extent it is similar to Linux and Wikipedia; the content has to conform to a format, but there is plenty of room to manoeuvre for the content itself, with any such flexibility being open to be monitored by anyone and everyone. “The Pirate Party is a real net community” – P2P Foundation Amelia Andersdotter recently presented the Swedish Pirate Party in Citilab at the invitation of the Virtual European Parliament

Catamaran is the same price as a sea-doo, but it is like a boat – storage, shade, all 4 of us and Opie were very comfortable on it.

Jump to the full entry & travel map Xi'an, Shaanxi, China Today we visited the Terra Cotta Warriors which are in the process of being excavated on a farmland outside of Xi’an. The bus ride was about one hour, but it was worth it. The excavation has been made into a museum. Several of us opted for an English audio guide so that we would know what we were looking at. The warriors were supposed to protect the emporer who is buried near the site. Each of the warriors is carved in detail with appropriate garb to indicate his position or rank in the army. Their faces are all different, if you didn’t know better, you would think that each one had an individual who posed. As is the case in everywhere we go, the locals are impressed with our presence. I don’t know how many pictures I have had taken with Chinese people, but if I had a dollar for each, I could return home 1st class. Most of the time the pictures are with children and they ask permission, however, I did catch a lady trying to sit next to me so that her husband could snap a photo. I smiled at the camera so they would know I was aware of their actions. Maybe I should carry a photo that I could autograph!! After lunch, we visited the first national museum in China. It is a history museum displaying artifacts from pre-historic times until now. It was real interesting to see the development of civilization. Too much to see and so little time. In the museum, as I was glancing into an excavated tomb, a young Chinese boy (about 8-10 years old) asked me “Do you like this hole?”. Surprised by his nearly perfect English, I responded that I did and complimented him on his English. He told me that it is his native language, but he is not from New York. I is from China. He also speaks Chinese, Cantonese, and Spanish. When I asked him to speak Spanish, he had a problem with numbers. Before I realized it, we had an audiance listening to both of us. He was absolutely adorable!!! Dinner was at KFC, but I passed and went to the local convenience store. When I returned I ate at the hotel restaurant (spaghetti and meat sauce – my favorite). After a day of walking, my back needed a rest, so I retired early to watch HBO and read. Another wonderful day in China!!!!

Every day I am amazed at the ingenuity of Iran’s cyber generation. Isolated from outside media, they transformed seemingly narcissistic and shallow, global networking sites (check out pics of my trip to San Francisco) into an unrestricted forum divulging political corruption. This generation is completely utilizing resources like Youtube, where millions of people are witnessing the violence erupt in the streets, and Twitter, where first-hand experiences are chronicled in a continuous feed.
