Two hours is likely too short to be looking for the kind of “stinky tofu” that bested Andrew Zimmern in his Bizarre Foods episode on Taiwan, but we’ll see

Jump to the full entry & travel map Ayutthaya, Thailand Tohn and his wife Naya have been giving us the grand tour of Thailand and we’re fortunate and grateful to be so guided – especially when we see all the people loaded onto those huge, gaudily-colored tour buses and packed into the occasional open-air jitneys. The semi-forced sleep deprivation of yesterday handily dispatched any and all jet lag, and having had a solid, earplug-insured night’s sleep we’ve emerged from zombie status to the land of the living and are ready for some serious adventure. Today we’ve been promised a genuine Lara Croft-Tomb Raider type ancient temple or two, and despite the fact that the Ayutthaya municipality turns out to be one of the busiest (read: tourist-thick) destinations we’ve yet seen, the crowds are actually not too bad, the area is huge, and traveling with people who know the area as second nature means finding things we never would have on our own

(Photo- Todd Westphal ) Chris Palko AKA Cage has been through several major transformations in his decade plus long career in Hip Hop. From the brilliantly embittered, drug addled rants of “Movies For the Blind” to the darkly introspective metamorphosis of “Hell’s Winter” he has always been an artist in the truest sense, drawing inspiration from a tortured life whose incredible story is currently in the process of being made into a feature film starring Shia LeBoeuf Originally posted here: EXCLUSIVE: CAGE – The ABORT Interview (Issue 12 Preview)

Jump to the full entry & travel map Xi'an, Shaanxi, China We took the night train from Xi’an to Beijing. We left the hotel at about 6:45 pm. When we got to the train station, it was very different from what I expected. First, we parked several blocks down the train station. There were porters on bicycle carts to help with our luggage. It is one of the ways the local people make money. As we got closer to the train station, it looked more and more like a parking lot. Going through security seemed a little pointless since I am not sure what they were looking for. They x-rayed every bag, but there was nothing, as far as I could tell, that was not allowed or confiscated. When we went insider, there were people sleeping on newspapers and blankets everywhere. We went straight to our platform and right onto the train. It is a good thing because we got on the train about five minutes before 8 and the train left at 8:10

Jump to the full entry & travel map Valdez, Alaska, United States We took the cruise yesterday and I did indeed see a whale. A Humback, and I wish I could report that I have a picture to mark the moment but, unfortunately I was unable to push that darn button in time to catch that tail before it disappeared! It was a perfectly beautiful day for a boat ride…..overcast and cool. We dug out our warmest coats to be prepared for the cold. As it turned out, it was very cold out on the deck and I decided to enjoy the ride mostly from the inside, going out only for a few minutes at a time.

Less than three weeks ago, a forest fire whipped through this timber stand just outside a municipal park near Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Firefighting airplanes, helicopters, firetrucks and ground crews kept the fire from jumping the highway and destroying the RV park on the other side of the road. There were people camped in tents in the area, too, so it was very fortunate that no one was hurt, and the remnants of the fire were put out after several days. And now, not even twenty days afterwards , the roots of these trees are sending out new shoots and greenery in the midst of what looks like destruction. There’s a moral here: Even if you suffer total disaster, if you have firmly grounded roots, you can regrow and grow stronger from the ashes of what surrounds you

Jump to the full entry & travel map Ribe, Jutland, Denmark After arriving in Hirshtals we didn’t really have any plans, all we knew was that we needed to be in Amsterdam on the 11th. So what to do for 2 days and nights without any reservations. Well, we were starving so we found a small hotel by the port that had a breakfast buffet and free internet, yeah connected again. Chatting with the front desk manager, who likes the US a lot, we got the suggestion to go to Silkeborg , since it had the highest point in Denmark,(not very high) also Annalisa wanted to go there to see the bog people
