Acaraje ad nauseum – Salvador, State of Bahia, Brazil

Jump to the full entry & travel map Salvador, State of Bahia, Brazil Hey Arrived in Salvador and was quickly whisked to my hotel by Roberto – a smiley welcoming Bahian (a Brazilian from the state of Bahia).  We talked about whisky and football – the usual conversation I have with a Brazilian when they hear I am from Scotland.  The former is slightly easier for me to chat about than the latter! The heat, the humidity, the smell and the Portuguese quickly gave me that holiday feeling.  At the hostel I checked in at the same time as Stacey – an American girl on a nine month trip round South America.  We ended up travelling for an eventful week together – a serendipitous encounter.

Bonnie’s Sensational Scones

Next-door neighbor and baker extraordinaire Bonnie Swanson shared her buttery scones with Mary Beattie at Pincushion Mountain B&B near Grand Marais, Minnesota. Mary took Bonnie’s suggestion: using a small ice cream scoop to shape these spice-nut favorites when baking them for guests. Design Project of Car Charger

A Car charger , which is conventionally used for power supply of vehicle battery(car:12V;truck:24V),has been widely applied to lithium battery of various portable and handheld devices, such as mobile phone, PDA, GPS, to name but a few. It is necessary for people to pay attention to the actual demand of lithium battery, that is, constant voltage (CV), constant current (CC), and over-voltage protection (OVP); in addition, people also need to take consideration of a variety of tough conditions with which a car battery must be confronted, such as transient rush voltage, noise disturbance of car system with startup and shutdown, EMI etc

Getting your dollar’s worth of food!

Following on the One Dollar Diet Project ‘s footsteps, Amy and Karla of Hope Heals:”Dollar-A-Day Challange” are attempting to eat on a dollar a day for a month in order to raise money for a trip to Africa with Habitat for Humanity. One point raised in the $1 Diet Project’s comments is that a dollar a day buys you more in those very countries where people live on that amount of money or less, countries such as Mexico. I was curious so I took Amy and Karla’s shopping list and compared it to the prices listed on Profeco’s website Quién es quién en los precios (who is who in prices) where they comparison shop a wide list of items.

Cooking from scratch in Mexico

I originally wrote this article for Yo Listo under the name Comida Lista. One of the things ex-pats often say about moving to Mexico, is that it’s like moving back in time to the fifties, sixties or seventies (or whenever they experienced childhood). It’s one of the reasons many people chose to move south of the border, the slower pace of life, the emphasis on family and the new and exotic foods
