… bought new releases (Mos Def’s The Ecstatic) and bought artists I’ve never even heard of, but sound incredibly good and have catchy songs (Anjulie)….I also rediscovered some artists I enjoyed in the past, including Cece Peniston and Xscape….I don’t always listen to everything right when I buy it, but when I do, I give it the time and attention it deserves since the artist put time and work to get it t o me….I will offer my opinion of the album (a review, if you will) and highlight the good and the bad of albums and artists I currently own….

Jump to the full entry & travel map Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia Today was truly a great day. After eating breakfast at the hostel (including hot coffee which was a big mistake as I began sweating even before I left), I walked to the Puduraya bus terminal to buy a bus ticket to Melaka. I was recommended Transnasional or KKKL and since I saw Transnasional first, I went with them. Then, wanting to get a feel for KL’s neighbourhoods which I didn’t really get to do yesterday, I walked quite a bit to Chinatown (and bought a humble amount of fake designer goods), the Central Market, Little India, and Asian Heritage Row before making my way to a station on the LRT… After taking a shower in the afternoon, I set forth on a local bus to the Batu Caves, a Hindu shrine. At the entrance to the grounds, one is greeted by a larger than life, 42.7 metre statue of the Hindu god Murugan, right beside a flight of 272 steps to the top of the main cave. Word to the wise: don’t mindlessly eat or drink, as monkeys abound and are quite aggressive in poaching people’s snacks..

Jump to the full entry & travel map Bordeaux, Aquitaine, France After a bus trip up from Toulouse, I jumped off, and nearly got myself run over with the trollies. Oh well. I found the hostel Ok, and signed in. It is the only hostel in Bordeaux, and I had to stay over in Toulouse to be able to book it. I quickly ferreted out the wine in the market! Yes, it had to be Bordeaux wine. Or why else bother to come here. But, while Bordeaux isn’t that attractive, the environs are. I took two day trips, one to Carcassonne, the other to Albi. Both very very worth the while. I decided I wanted to return for a bike tour of the wineries, and to do some camping. Will I ever do that? I don’t know. I have so many other places to go first. Will I last? Maybe when I am about 70, I will have completed my world trip. Or die trying. Then I can come back. Except I want to motobike from veraCruz Mexico to Usuhia (Patagonia). Oh well.

Jump to the full entry & travel map Rockley, Barbados Because some people showed interest in pictures of Barbados, I shall throw in a few random ones from the recently-completed Boardwalk on the south coast of the island Starting on Rockley [a.k.a. Accra] beach, this thing runs for just over a mile and has been seen as a very positive addition to the area – not only because a lot of people like to walk up and down to take in the scenery, but because it’s also added a lot more beach area where there was only rocks before. It’s proven to be a very popular spot for locals and tourists alike

Jump to the full entry & travel map Singapore, Singapore Pretty much sums up the day…The San Miguels from last night were uncharacteristically brutal on me this morning, and hence we didn’t leave the house until after 11am. The Singapore Zoo was the first stop on our itinerary (which was the only thing on our itinerary at the time), and didn’t disappoint. I’ve been to a handful of zoos in the last year (Toronto, Cusco, seen the outside of Santiago and BA) but this one left me impressed by the way the animals were separated from us humans – usually not by metal fences or unsightly slabs of concrete, but rather by shrubs and other plants, highlighting the idea of seeing an animal in its natural settings (though admittedly, huanacos and zebras are hardly native to Southeast Asia). Because of this, the animals seemed marginally “happier” than in other zoos, but of course, this is just my humble opinion… After the zoo, our stomachs decided that the next stop on our itinerary would be lunch on Orchard Road, so we took the bus and the MRT on our way to a restaurant where we had absolutely delicious sushi. To melt off the rather rich lunch, we walked a good distance to the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and inside, continued to walk some more, admiring the spacious grounds and the different species of flora from around the world. We passed by the National Orchid Garden but decided to skip it since it wasn’t free..

Jump to the full entry & travel map Hope, British Columbia, Canada Well, it’s time to slowly head back home. BC was/is beautiful and some place I will see more of in the future! Today it was a de-camp and travel day. We were out of Goldstream by 11:15 and on the way to Nanaimo where we took the ferry to Horseshoe Bay. Unfortunately the camera had no battery power left so I couldn’t get any photos from the ferry this time. Another big load of laundry and a Greek restaurant for dinner and we had to say Goodbye to our tour guide Randy. Thanks so much for showing us your beautiful Province! Tomorrow we head for Edmonton. And I need sleeeeep!

Jump to the full entry & travel map Millstream, British Columbia, Canada Site 31 at Rolley Lake was very popular. By 9:30 the next people were ready to set up. We had an 11:00 checkout though and we were out by 10:30. Allison started the day driving and got us to the Ferry at Tsawassen toward Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island. A nice hour and a half later we were driving toward Victoria and our campsite at Goldstream Provincial Park. The site we got was a little smaller than at Rolley Lake but we still had plenty of room. In the afternoon we went to find a laundromat (much needed) and did some groceries. Day 2 on the Island brought us to Victoria where we went to the wax museum and the BC Museum with an IMAX presentation on the Serengeti. Weather was a little cool in the city but campfires at night kept us nice and warm

Jump to the full entry & travel map Pula, Istarska, Croatia I left Venice this morning on the TrenItalia headed to Trieste. Why are my trains always late? Well, finally, my platform came up on the board, and off I was, heading for track 6, with every body else in the Venice train station. So it seemed. I had a great little 2.5 hr trip on the train. This train had an ac connection, so when my netbook ran out of juice, I was able to plug it in, right there at my seat! No wifi, but I am sure that will come. I got off the train, headed for info window at the train station to get connection to Pula. Well, the train woman was quick to point out that there are NO trains to Pula. But..

Photo: Startraks Photo Earlier this week Madonna grabbed dinner at Gold in Milan, Italy with model/beau Jesus Luz and designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (ya know, D&G) wearing the Italian label’s silver leopard dress (cougar alert?). Now, Stefano Gabbana has revealed inside details on the intimate dinner via the Dolce & Gabbana blog ! Stefano spilled on Madge’s diva behavior including: “‘Madonna requested bunches of gardenia and strobe lights…mojitos, limoncello and champagne.’” Later on, the “Like a Virgin” star took to the dance floor, with Stefano reporting, “‘She was pulled into a circle of her dancers; there was a thrilling moment of free style, it really was something amazing to watch.’” Gardenias?

(We’re pretty sure there are still some folks out there clinging to this one.) But a mohawk

So, we figured since we were camping the second night anyways, we might as well stay for a few extra hours to do the Treetops trip

Jump to the full entry & travel map Banner Elk, North Carolina, United States Today was rainy as predicted (we had hoped the weatherman would be wrong). We sat inside all morning but by lunchtime it was not raining anymore, just cloudy. So we drove down the Mountain to the Old Hampton Store for a bbq lunch. It was really good and we got banana pudding for dessert. We headed back to the cabin where David Andrew & Jennifer took a nap. Grandmama & Grandaddy took Caroline off on a drive and they went to feed ducks at a park. It was really clearing up in the evening – the sun was even peeking out so we decided to go to the Thursday night concert at the Banner Elk park. We went to one last summer too and it was really nice. They have vendors with food for sale and the playground and stream and there too. We let the kids play first and then we had dinner and sat and listened to the music .

Jump to the full entry & travel map Wuyi Shan, China Hey Hey and a Big G’Day Toya After an awesome sleep we all met up around eight. After checking out we left our packs at the front desk and then headed out in search of something to each. We found a noodle bar and after forgetting to tell them ‘no or just a little chilli’ we each received a noodle soup that looked like it had been offered from the very depths of hell. Admittedly it was a very tasty dish but the taste only lasts a short time before your mouth and lips turn completely numb! Georgia didn’t make it though hers and got some bread rolls instead.
