Mountains and countryside but… — Sapa, Vietnam

Jump to the full entry & travel map Sapa, Vietnam Since I had some time to spend while waiting for my Indian visa, I booked a tour to Sapa, which is a small town in the mountains. It is apparently a very popular place to visit, as all travel agents in Hanoi organize tours there. My tour includes overnight trains there and back, 1 night hotel,1 night home stay and all the meals.

Incredibly specific — Daqing, Heilongjiang, China

Jump to the full entry & travel map Daqing, Heilongjiang, China I haven’t updated in ages. I’d like to say that my excuse is that it’s been “summer intensive” period at EF, so I’ve only had one day off a week, but “one day off” still means I have hours every day where I don’t have to do anything and I easily could have updated.

Lijiang — Lijiang, Yunnan Province, China

Jump to the full entry & travel map Lijiang, Yunnan Province, China We took out first flight in China from Kunming to Lijiang. We’d been really enjoying the trains, but now we are at higher altitude, there aren’t any trains and we had a choice of 40 pounds for a 40 minute flight or 10 pounds for 10 hours on a bus, so this was an easy decision

Temples In and Around Ella — Ella, Sabaragamuwa, Sri Lanka

Jump to the full entry & travel map Ella, Sabaragamuwa, Sri Lanka We had three temple visits in and around Ella—two cave temples just outside of Ella and the local Ella temple that we simply had to visit after going to sleep and waking up to daily chanting. The first was on an eleven kilometre bus return from Bandarawela (six cents return each) where we had gone to access the nearest ATM and I ended up buying my first dhoti (simply called a sarong in Sri Lanka) that most men wear for work or leisure
