We’d been really enjoying the trains, but now we are at higher altitude, there aren’t any trains and we had a choice of 40 pounds for a 40 minute flight or 10 pounds for 10 hours on a bus, so this was an easy decision

Weekly Update – Frank love at the Elkins Estate

Thanks.Frank, an outpouring of love for retired Tyler School of Art painting prof Frank Bramblett , honors a beloved educator and raconteur known for his wit, compassion and deep thinking about art, culture and society. (Full disclosure: In 2006, I co-taught one semester of senior painting studio with Bramblett and Libby Rosof.) Tyler alums put out the call, and works poured in from all over the country, from 35 artists in all, including paintings, sculpture and works on paper from local artists like Anthony Campuzano, Thomas Vance, Austin Lee and Rebecca Saylor Sack and out-of-towners Kelly McRaven (New York) and Trenton Doyle Hancock (Texas), to name a few.

First Friday three-ring circus at Jolie Laide

The show at Jolie Laide on First Friday included the slick, decorative surfaces of Robert Horvath in the main space, in the alley the funky DIY installation by Tim Eads, and in the project space the mechanical torture rack of Heather Ramsdale. Robert Horvath in front of his 15 Minutes of Fame mixed media sculpture Horvath is the artist of the month at the gallery, and the other two were there for one-night installations.

Handicrafts are defined as articles made by the hand. These are also known as craftwork or craft. Handicraft is a broad term that comprises different traditional articles designed and made exclusively by hands using simple hand tools. Handicrafts symbolize centuries of customs and consist of articles that might be used for religious and sacred rituals and also having traditional importance such as sculpture, metal ware, pottery, jewellery, etc.
