Annapolis Scavenger Hunt

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you already know I try to walk downtown to the Annapolis City Dock everyday, so yes I do know where the lovely victorian piece of glass pictured above is located, however if you check out the 24 other photos on the web posted by the Annapolis Historic Commission you may be stumped in a few instances. You only have to be able to identify 20 of the 25 to be entered into a drawing for a $75 gift certificate at a downtown store

Scanning for Gold at Book Sales…

I love the month of May…it is easily my favourite!  The weather is more summerlike, trees and flowers begin blossoming, and it’s time to plant the garden.  It’s also book sale season – I love scouting for our store! Tomorrow night, Jim and I will travel to Moncton for the Canadian Federation of University Women’s 48th Annual Book Fair (the Fredericton Chapter will hold theirs on May 28th and 29th).  Friday morning, Dad and I (and the kids – they’re off school on Friday), will be in line for the annual Saint John Free Public Library Book Sale.  Hope will be shopping for herself, but Anna will be helping us find the good stuff! I haven’t been to the Moncton sale since I’ve had the bookstore, so I’m not sure what to expect…I’m hoping for great things!  The sale is held in a Curling Club in the neighbourhood I used to live in before moving to Saint John (we’ll be stopping to visit old friends for tea after we buy books!). Venue for the Moncton sale…

The Rocketeer Flies again

The late, great Dave Stevens drew comic book characters that rocketed right off the page. I was reminded of that when I got a look at a very special new book from IDW Publishing that has just gone on sale and will be available for pick-up at Comic-Con International in San Diego in July. Here’s the cover to this massive, black-and-white hardcover edition called “ Dave Stevens’ The Rocketeer: Artist’s Edition “… The Rocketeer is a superhero created by writer/illustrator Dave Stevens

Antiques Value Guide – Your old stuff really old?

Image : http://www.flickr.com If the word “old” were used to identify all the old and obsolete, chances are you have some antiques should dress your wardrobe, shelter, tools, and perhaps even drag him back fresher. For this question, you might also believe that the term is really the person you are married! A Royal Silver Tea Caddy

On a recent buying trip we found a tea caddy in the shape of a picnic basket with two sides that flap open. The royal coat of arms on the lids is that of the King of Hanover, Ernst Augustus who also happened to be the 5 th son of King George 3rd. He was the Duke of Cumberland.

Investing in Antiques

Few investments provide an immediate return but antiques can add character to your home, they are environmentally friendly (the ultimate recyclables) and current low prices offer an opportunity for excellent medium and long term gains. nyonya tea cup

Dawn of a New Day

As anyone in retail can tell you, each day is a new day. Some filled with joy, some, well, not so much! Today I got to the store early, stressing about our bridal room being ready, the status of merchandise, etc., etc. But, as I walked toward my office, the light stopped me as if God was saying, “stop, enjoy the moment – my gift to you.” I thought I would share that moment with my friends and I grabbed my camera.
