Jul 30, 2010 We received our first collection of consignment antiques today…they are for sale in the second floor room, formerly the home of “Sit & Knit. ” The owner formerly owned an antique store, so these are some beautiful pieces! We’ll be adding new items every week so please stop by often!

ye olde tymey tuesday – the wartime edition

this is one of my favorite ye olde tymey cookbooks i picked up a few months ago when i was antiquing with megan in santa rosa. its titled cheese recipes for wartime meals – how to make your cheese go further published in 1943 by (you guessed it) the kraft cheese company. even the cover looks so serious

Perhaps because it is almost fall and this summer has gone by so incredibly fast, my mind is on de-cluttering, purging and making space for new things in life. My husband and I spent the last week going from room to room gathering things that we no longer needed, loved or wanted. On Saturday morning we headed out very early in order to go to a flea market and sell a bunch of junk that’s taking up too much space in our lives. We had made a decision that whatever didn’t sell wasn’t coming back into the house either. So at the end I was left with only a few boxes of items to donate. The weather was so beautiful and this was our first time participating in a community flea market, in the past we would have just had a yard sale but I really enjoyed this alternative. I’d say about the only drawback (if you want to call it that) is that you may be tempted, as I was, to bring something new (to you) home. I got the two antique games below because I just love the charming images on them! I also found a couple small hand stitched textiles (which I will share in another post)

The neat thing about antiquing is that, not only can anyone participate, you never know what you’re going to find. We’ve all seen TV programs like “Antiques Roadshow”, and smiled (perhaps with a touch of envy) when someone learns that the little vase they purchased at a flea market is worth more than their house… Antiquing is simply the process of browsing for old things and collectibles.

I am deliriously happy today. Yes, that happy! Why? Because this arrived! The writing desk, that is. I bought the chair off eBay a few months ago for $60. The writing desk is another eBay buy – I’ve been hunting for something like this for a while now. We don’t have the money for lots of new furniture at the moment. So slowly, slowly I get the odd piece, usually secondhand off eBay. I love a good vintage find.

The first things my Chick Trip guests did when they arrived on Friday (besides dropping their jaws when they saw all the food and beverage I had stored up for them) was open all the windows and let the fresh, cool breeze blow through the house

Antiquing in New Hampshire

On a recent trip to visit the grandparents in New Hampshire, I took a side trip to two of the many antique stores along the route. The first, Windsor Cottage Antiques in Hillsboro, was neat and tidy. The second just down the road (which is pictured to the left and whose name escapes me unfortunately) was quite the opposite.
